SAVR Series Technical Information

The following additional technical information is provided primarily for software development and end user reference. These manuals apply to the SAVR series of devices, and do not address command and response behavior of the consumer electronic devices which the SAVR series may be connected to.

While every effort has been made to keep these references free from error, no guarantee is made with respect to the completeness or accuracy of the documentation.

SAVR Outline Drawing (gif image, 17 kb) - SAVR series exterior line drawing and basic package dimensions.

SAVR Series Interface Specification - Rev D / May 3, 2007 (Adobe Acrobat, 84 kb) - The interface specification describes the command language behavior, error messages, and other necessary details for developing software to use the SAVR series devices.

SAVR to SAVR2 Upgrade Instructions - Rev IR / April 23, 2005 (Adobe Acrobat, 650 KB)- Due to the similarity between the SAVR and SAVR2 devices, it is possible to upgrade a legacy SAVR to the new SAVR2 functionality by replacing two key components. Please review the instructions before considering this change. The necessary components are availablefrom BlackBoxDesigns. Please contact Jeff jeff@blackboxdesigns.comor Brian brian@blackboxdesigns.com for additional information and necessary components.

SAVR2 IR Support Modification Instructions - Rev IR / April 23, 2005 (Adobe Acrobat, 1.23 MB)- With the arrival of the SAVR2 and it's faster CPU, it is now possible to modify the SAVR2 to support IR emitters in a limited way. The modification is described for a SAVR unit previously upgraded to a SAVR2, but the work instructions are identical for modifications of a SAVR2. This is a fairly large change to the SAVR/SAVR2, so BlackBoxDesigns does not recommend you undertake the change unless you a) need the IR emitter functionality, and b) have some experience soldering and desoldering components off of circuit boards. Please contact Jeff jeff@blackboxdesigns.comor Brian brian@blackboxdesigns.com if you have any questions or need components.

Important Note: The SAVR and SAVR2 were not designed originally with support of IR emitters in mind. The modification described here has been tested and functions well with single emitters at short ranges. The SAVR3 has far superior IR emitter support already designed into the basic unit. BlackBoxDesigns cannot be responsible for damage done to the device while implementing these instructions. Please take extreme care if undertaking this modification.
